The Sound of Silence
In this Christmas message, The Sound of Silence, Pastor Bill Russell explores the often-overlooked reality that God’s silence can be one of His greatest gifts. Drawing from the story of Zechariah and Elizabeth in Luke 1, we discover a world that had endured 400 years without hearing the voice of God. Yet in that very silence, God was working, preparing, and positioning His people for the arrival of the Messiah. Just as Zechariah was chosen, visited by an angel, and given a promise he struggled to believe, we too face seasons when God seems quiet—and yet His Word remains faithful and true.
Pastor Bill reminds us that silence is not absence. Like Zechariah, we are invited to trust what God has already said, even when heaven feels still. The silence in our lives may be God getting our attention, shaping our character, or positioning us for a deeper encounter with Him. And just as Zechariah’s tongue was finally loosed in a song of praise, our seasons of silence can ultimately refine our testimony and strengthen our faith.
This Christmas, amidst all the sights and sounds of the season, we are invited to tune our spiritual ears to what God is whispering in the quiet places. Even when we cannot hear Him immediately, His Word speaks, His promises stand, and His presence is nearer than we realize. This message calls us to slow down, embrace the quiet, and believe—fully and confidently—in the silence of God.
