Practical Advice for Citizens Of Heaven On Earth
In this message from our series The Identity of the Church, Pastor Bill Russell explores what it means to live as a citizen of heaven while still navigating life on earth. Drawing from 1 Timothy 6:11–21, he reminds us that the tension we feel between these two worlds is not a burden—it’s a blessing. God uses this tension to expose false worldviews, draw others to Christ, and strengthen our own faith.
At the heart of this passage is a beautiful truth: God is authoring your story as if you already belonged fully to heaven. Just as Scripture holds together perfectly across time, God is weaving every part of your life into a consistent, Christ-centered story. Because of that, we can flee what weakens us, follow the Spirit within us, and fight the good fight—not to earn anything, but to live out what we already have in Christ.
This sermon calls us to embrace eternal life in the middle of a mortal world, to operate in heaven’s economy rather than earth’s, and to guard the good news in a culture drowning in bad news. You are a citizen of heaven—so live like one, love like one, and shine like one.
