Being A Steward of God's Anger

Handout Notes

Anger is one of the most misunderstood and mishandled emotions in the Christian life. In this message from The Congruent Life series, Pastor Bill Russell explores what it means to be a steward of God’s anger—an anger that is neither suppressed nor unleashed, but shaped by Scripture and guided by the Holy Spirit. Drawing from Romans 1:18–23 and Ephesians 4:25–32, this sermon helps us distinguish between destructive, self-driven anger and righteous, God-honoring anger.

The Bible teaches that godly anger is not fueled by emotional impulse but anchored in truth. Paul reminds us that while anger itself is not sinful, unmanaged anger opens the door to bitterness, division, and spiritual harm. Through careful biblical teaching, we see how believers are called to govern anger responsibly, surrender sinful expressions of it, and allow the Holy Spirit to remove what corrupts our hearts and relationships.

This message invites us to live a congruent life—one where our inner emotions align with our outward faith. As we learn to steward anger rather than deny it or discharge it destructively, we grow in maturity, peace, and Christlike love. Godly anger, when shaped biblically and guided spiritually, becomes a tool for truth, justice, and reconciliation rather than a force of destruction.
